Works on paper are generally less important than their large acrylic or oil counterparts. Often rather small, but sometimes also used as an independent medium, their special charm unfolds in their immediacy, their often sketchy inscrutability. They are usually less carefully planned and yet have to be very virtuoso in order to develop their full effect. Nine artists from Berlin, Vienna and New York are showing their works at galerie engler. On display are works of great diversity, whose beautiful appearance or wit is sometimes deceptive. Beauty and a rather fine aesthetic execution lead to absurdity in terms of content, here and there the evil abyss beckons, in layers the realization matures in the viewer that what he sees is not necessarily what he gets...
